Meet the Mudstack Agent: Your AI-Powered Creative Assistant

Jordan Stevens / Founder, Head of Customer Success

Every minute an artist spends searching for files, renaming assets, or staging commits is a minute they're not creating. That overhead might seem small in isolation, but across a team and a full production cycle, it compounds into days of lost creative output and weeks of lost cycle time.
Today, we're excited to announce the Mudstack Agent — an AI-powered assistant embedded directly in the Mudstack desktop app. It's the next step in our journey from a fixed feature set to an extensible platform that adapts to your pipeline, and it puts natural-language control over your assets, tags, version history, and commits right at your fingertips.
Why an Embedded Agent?
Earlier this year, we introduced our MCP server to let you orchestrate and automate your work in external tools through Mudstack. The Agent provides an intelligent, easy to use interface that handles manual tasks on your behalf. Instead of switching between chat windows, terminals, and the Mudstack UI, you can simply tell the Agent what you need, in plain English — or any other language — and it handles the rest.
This fits squarely into the vision we laid out in our pipeline automation series: helping art teams spend more of their time creating and less on manual overhead.
What Can the Agent Do?
The Agent combines Mudstack's local tooling with an LLM to handle a broad range of everyday tasks.
Find and organize assets instantly. Ask the Agent to locate every .fbx file in your Characters folder, or surface all textures tagged "forest" in the Environments folder. No more clicking through nested folders. Just describe what you need.
Tag, rename, and comment in bulk. Need to apply a "v2" tag to a batch of files? Rename an asset from old_tree.fbx to tree_02.fbx? Leave a review note on a texture? A single prompt handles it. The Agent can chain multiple actions together, so you can tag, stage, and push in one go.
Manage your version history. View the full history of any asset, search through past commits, inspect commit details, or purge old versions you no longer need — all through conversation.
Stage, commit, and push with confidence. Tell the Agent which files to stage, provide a commit message, and push to the cloud. It operates on your local data first, so you can review changes before anything goes live.
Get answers without leaving the app. The Agent knows Mudstack inside and out, and it understands adjacent creative tools like Unreal, Maya, Unity, and Photoshop. Ask it how to export a Maya file into Mudstack, or what the best practices are for organizing libraries — it'll guide you through the process.
Work in any language. Not a native English speaker? Not a problem. The Agent understands and can communicate in any language, making it a great tool for global and dispersed teams.
A Smarter Way to Work
What makes the Agent more than a chatbot is its context awareness. Select files in the Mudstack UI before prompting, and those files become part of the conversation. That means you can highlight a group of assets and say "Add the tag 'Hero model' to the selected files, then stage and push them with the summary 'Hero model push'." The Agent reads the selection, executes the tagging, stages the files, and pushes — sequentially and transparently.
Prompt history is retained within a session, so you can build on previous actions without re-explaining context. And because every modification happens locally before being pushed, you can review what the agent is doing before sharing with your team. Nothing reaches the cloud until you're ready.
Getting Started
The Agent is available now in the Mudstack desktop app as a beta feature. Admins can enable it by going to Account Settings → Teams, selecting your team, and add the AI rule to enable access.
From there, users on teams with AI enabled can just start chatting.
You can ask the Agent to display its available tools at any time by prompting "Display your local tool capabilities."

Looking Ahead: The Agent as a Pipeline Nerve Center
What we're releasing today is just the foundation. The Agent already saves meaningful time on repetitive tasks, but we are actively working towards unlocking a much larger opportunity. Here are some scenarios we are working to support in the near future:
Scheduled prompts and proactive intelligence. Imagine configuring the Agent to run a prompt every morning that surfaces your team's velocity — how many assets were committed yesterday, which reviews are pending, where bottlenecks are forming. Producers could start their day with a clear operational picture, generated automatically, without pulling a single report.
Webhook-connected outputs. Pair the Agent's actions with Mudstack's outbound webhooks, and you unlock cross-tool automation. An agent-driven commit could automatically post a summary to a Slack channel. A batch tagging operation could update a Notion database tracking asset completion. A review comment could trigger a Jira ticket. The Agent becomes the glue between your creative pipeline and the project management layer around it.
Configurable models and guardrails. We're building toward letting teams choose their preferred LLM, control which tools the Agent can access, and set safety and review policies that match their studio's governance requirements.
Deeper bulk operations and cloud tools. Today's local toolset is just the beginning. We're expanding to cloud-native actions, folder operations, library management, file locking, and more robust bulk capabilities — all accessible through the same conversational interface.
The theme across all of this is the same principle driving our entire platform strategy: Mudstack should fit your pipeline, not the other way around. The Agent is how that principle extends into daily, hands-on production work — giving artists and producers a faster, more intuitive way to interact with their creative infrastructure.
